ESA Asian-Oceanian Fellowship in Clinical Epileptology
The ESA offers a 12 month scholarship for a junior physician, generally a neurologist or paediatric neurologist, from the Asian-Oceanian region to further their training in epilepsy at a centre in Australia.
Academic backing from the applicant's own institution is required. The candidate should be committed to the care of patients with epilepsy, preferably in the setting of a public hospital.
In order to be eligible, applicants for this fellowship must have
already applied to centres in Australia for training — the scholarship is a means of potentially funding this training. Additionally, personal contact with an epileptologist from the Australian centre or a member of the ILAE Commission on Asian Oceanian Affairs, usually by way of meeting at a conference, is recommended. The ESA relies very much on letters of support from the epileptologist at the Australian centre, the local ILAE chapter and the ILAE Commission when considering an application.
The value of the scholarship in 2007 is AUD$35,000.
The closing date for applications is October 31 each year.
