The ESA offers an annual scholarship of AUD$50,000 for a young neurologist or paediatrician from the Asian-Oceanian Region. The recipient will attend an institution in Australia for further clinical training in epileptology. The applicant must have identified an Australian centre and supervisor to train with before applying; the ESA does not place trainees in specific centres. Academic backing from the applicant’s own institution and local ILAE chapter is also required.

The candidate should be committed to the care of patients with epilepsy.

Further information including the details of Australian host institutions and contact persons can be obtained from the ESA Secretariat.

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • Provide a letter of support from their ILAE chapter.
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Have been accepted for training by an institution in Australia.
  • Have academic support from home institution.
  • Have completed training in neurology, internal medicine or paediatrics.

All applications must include:

  • A curriculum vitae including the names of two referees.
  • A cover letter citing interest in the ESA Asian-Oceanian Clinical Epileptology Fellowship.
  • A supporting letter from Australian host institution.
  • A supporting letter from the local ILAE chapter and home institution.
  • Copies of undergraduate and postgraduate medical certificate.
  • A copy of an IELTS test report which is not more than two years old. The applicant must have achieved a score of at least 7 in each of the four IELTS Academic Modeule components.
